Christopher,
Its one thing to keep coloring and keep the youth, but another to embrace ones age, stop the coloring and let the beauty pop out. It amazes me and makes me so happy to see that picture of your mother. I often wondered what she looked like now after seeing the picture of her and you father in your book. She was a beauty then but a show stopper now. I've been coloring my hair red since I was in my twenties and I'm 54 now. Last year I began my first makeover with the help of your book. I lost 40 pounds and found a new hairdresser. We've so far tried blond lighlights on red hair and now red on red. I think I liked the blond on red better but I'm not sure yet. Someday I want to go all grey I just don't know when I'll do it. I let my hair grow out comepletley in my thirties and it was total grey. So I could probably pull it off at any time. I sure am leaning that way since seeing your mom. If I could look as beautiful in my 70's I would be THRILLED.

Joann in silver hair is absolutely gorgeous! She looks young and beautiful. I had a friend who went gray in her late 20s and she was NEVER mistaken for an older lady due to her perfect glowing skin and bright eyes. Your mother, at 71, reminds me of her. I love your term for this: "Arctic Blonde." That is the term I am going to use as I go gray!

Joann, you look marvellous. BETTER than when you had dark hair! I actually love the prospect of greying: I've never coloured my hair, so seeing it start to come in a whole new colour is fascinating and exciting. Joann, with her radiant silver white crown, is a truly beautiful woman--a dramatic affirmation that a woman does not have to try to hang onto the look that was good for her in the past. She can be really beautiful by being who she is at every age. Three cheers for you, Joann! (And a gold star to Christopher too---your mum has never looked more lovely!)

I decided to go gray at 42 after seeing a man on a cruise about my age with white regrowth. It looked desperate to me and I shaved it down to the nub when I got home.

You have several options, really, Choral, depending on your color. Often a "Fer A Cheval" as we call it at reVamp! works keeping darker at the nape and gradually lightening to the top with very light foils to help balance regrowth. A video will be forthcoming of a woman who did exactly that.

ZILLIONS of high lift bleach foils with a level 6 ash might work. Bleach and tone is really a challenge.
